On one of the most technical and hard-packed tracks of the year, the 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series came to a close. With Sam Boyd Stadium playing host, the 17th and final round hit Las Vegas, Nevada, like a heavyweight prizefighter. Galfer-supported riders and teams have experienced much success since the opening event at Anaheim Stadium in January, and they put an exclamation mark on the 2013 season this weekend in Sin City.

Millsaps take Series 2nd overall in 450SX Championship (Photo Courtesy of Rockstar Energy Racing)

Rockstar Energy Racing’s No. 18 Davi Millsaps was ready to battle for second position in the 450SX Series as he climbed aboard his Galfer-equipped RMZ450 for one last go-round. Millsaps took runner-up honors in 450SX Heat 2 as he warmed up for the real fight set to take place in the 450SX main event. Millsaps didn’t have the best start in the main, but he moved through the pack quickly to put himself in third position. Over the long 20-lap race, Millsaps never wavered despite the intense pressure. When the checkered flag waved on the final Supercross main event of 2013, Millsaps crossed in third position, solidifying his second-place finish in the 2013 Monster Energy AMA 450SX Supercross Championship with a total of 338 championship points.

In the 250SX class, Rockstar Energy Racing No. 21 Jason Anderson, fresh of his first career victory just one week ago, was riding with newfound confidence and was fast and fluid aboard his Galfer-fitted machine. In the East vs. West format used exclusively for the Las Vegas event, Anderson didn’t have to battle through a heat race and instead moved straight to the 250SX West main event. Anderson did not get the start he was hoping for, but he rode at a fantastic pace, slicing through the pack from 12th up to sixth place at the finish. From there, Anderson moved on to the 250SX East vs. West Shootout, where he had a tough start but moved up to sixth position by the time the checkered flag waved. Anderson finished the 250SX West Region Supercross Series in fourth position with 139 points.

Rockstar Energy Racing 250SX team member No. 35 Ryan Sipes was riding at his best in Las Vegas and looking poised for success. Sipes rocketed off the line to a second place start in the 250SX West Region main event. Sipes battled for every inch of track, ultimately finishing a season-best fifth position. In the 250SX East vs. West Shootout, Sipes put forth another solid effort, crossing the finish line in seventh position. Sipes finished the 250SX West Region Supercross Series in 14th position with 75 championship points.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-3945" style="margin: 5px;" alt="Wharton was 4th for the night and 2nd overall for the season. (Photo Courtesy of Rockstar Energy Racing)

The final Rockstar Energy Racing 250SX rider on the roster at Las Vegas, No. 13 Blake Wharton, also brought his A-game to the event. Wharton began the 250SX East main event in fifth position and put in consistently fast laps to move into fourth place by the finish. When the gate fell on the 250SX East vs. West Shootout, Wharton put himself in excellent position for another successful ride. Despite tangling with another rider near the mid-way point, Wharton kept himself moving forward to lead his teammates home in fifth position. Wharton finished third overall in the 250SX East Region Supercross Series with 171 points.

Weston Peick put together a fantastic season with the high point coming at the finale Las Vegas. After an impressive fourth-place finish in 450SX Heat 1, Peick was riding with confidence and swagger as he rounded the first turn of the 450SX main event in seventh. For the next 20-laps Peick rode his LeoVince X3 “Works” Carbon Fiber-fitted RMZ450 with skill, using every inch of the track. Peick kept seventh position and earned his best finish of the entire season, which earned him 14th overall in the 450SX Supercross Series standings.

RCH Dodge Sycuan Suzuki is based out of Las Vegas, Nevada, so team riders No. 20 Broc Tickle and No. 75 Josh Hill had extra incentive to deliver excellent performances this weekend. Tickle got the ball rolling with a sixth-place finish in 450SX Heat 1, a finish that was match by his teammate Hill in 450SX Heat 2. With both riders advancing to the 450SX main event, the stage was set for a battle to the finish. Hill rounded the first turn in seventh, and Tickle followed in 14th position. Slowly the riders inched closer and then engaged in a battle of their own for several laps. When the race came to a close, Tickle had crept his way into tenth with Hill finishing in 14th. Tickle finished the season in ninth overall with 176 championship points, while Hill finished 15th overall with 93 points.

With Motoconcepts Racing/Smartop’s No. 800 Mike Alessi taking time to prepare for the Outdoor National Series and No. 23 Jake Canada injured, No. 67 Gavin Faith was the lone entry for the team in Las Vegas. Faith made the team’s efforts worthwhile by grabbing the holeshot and early lead in the 250SX East main event. Faith withstood the heat for several laps and rode to his second-best result of the season in fifth. He moved on to the 250SX East vs. West Shootout only to experience problems early in the race and retire early. Faith finished the 250SX East Region Supercross Series in fifth position overall with 116 championship points. Alessi finished the 450SX Supercross Series in 13th position with 107 championship points, while Jake Canada completed the 250SX West Region Supercross Series in 18th overall with 28 points.

BTO Sports – KTM team rider No. 29 Andrew Short rode his Galfer-equipped KTM450SX to fifth position in 450SX Heat 1 and then notched another top-10 finish, taking ninth in the 20-lap 450SX main event. Short ended the 2013 series in seventh position overall with 214 championship points. No. 62 Matt Goerke, despite missing several rounds due to injury, finished up 12th overall in the 450 SX Supercross Series with 139 points.

JGR Toyota Yamaha rider NO. 10 Justin Brayton rode his Galfer-fitted YZ450F to third position in 450SX Heat 1. Brayton did not get the start he was hoping for in the 450SX main event, but was still able to move from outside the top 10 into eighth position at the finish. Brayton finished the series in eighth overall with 190 championship points.

Congratulations to the entire Galfer-supported roster on their incredible successes in the 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. The focus now moves to the upcoming 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship beginning on May 18th in Sacramento, CA.

EVENT RECAP:

Andrew Short took to the Las Vegas track in the afternoon to lay down the 12th fastest time in qualifying. As the gate dropped on his heat race, Short would use the power of his FMF exhaust system to get a great start. Her would run up front to finish 5th. In the main event, Short took advantage of his KTM Factory Services Engine and ripped another great start. He would go for it all race long and finished inside the top ten in 9th. With that, Short would end the Supercross season 7th in points.

With Supercross finished, the attention of the BTO Sports – KTM race team is now focused on the Outdoor National season opener at Hangtown, CA in a few weeks. Andrew Short will be joined by teammate Michael Byrne, who returns to racing after recovering from his injury last year. Matt Goerke will not be racing the opening round, as he is still recovering from his wrist injury and is due back later in the Outdoor season.

“Andrew rode a good race” said team manager Forrest Butler. “I’m proud of everyone on the team, as they worked hard all Supercross season. We are now focused on the Outdoors and with the return of Michael Byrne to the roster, we should have a great season in the Outdoors!’”

Rockstar Energy Racing’s Jason Anderson entered Round 16 of the 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series without a 250SX main event win to his credit. He left Salt Lake City victorious, and he scored his win in an incredibly convincing fashion.

Anderson took to the track aboard his No. 21 Galfer-equipped Rockstar Energy machine, logging the third-quickest qualifying time and finishing second in 250SX Heat 2. Once the gate dropped on the 250SX main event, no one could match Anderson’s speed and consistency. Anderson passed for the lead on lap two and stretched out a six-second lead by the time the checkered flag flew. Anderson earned his first victory with swift and steady laps and the reliable performance of his Galfer-equipped machine.

Davi Millsaps hit the podium with a 2nd place finish in Salt Lake City (Photo Courtesy of Rockstar Energy Racing)

Anderson’s Rockstar Energy Racing teammate, No. 18 Davi Millsaps, was also extremely impressive in Salt Lake City. Millsaps set the fastest qualifying time early in the day and also won 450SX Heat 2. Early in the main event, Millsaps made a small mistake and lost a position to a competitor. Undeterred, Millsaps rallied back from fifth and cut through the pack on a mission to the front. Lap after lap, Millsaps set blazing fast times as he moved into the top three, then into second, and ultimately challenged for the lead. On the last lap, Millsaps made one final surge at the lead but fell just inches short, finishing in the runner-up position. Millsaps is currently second in the 450SX point standings with one race remaining.

No. 35 Ryan Sipes returned to action last weekend in Seattle after an early season injury. After a solid fourth-place finish in 250SX Heat 2, Sipes raced to a seventh-place finish in the 250SX main event.

RCH Dodge Sycuan Suzuki teammates No. 20 Broc Tickle and No. 75 Josh Hill have been putting in impressive results. Tickle rode flawlessly in 450SX Heat 1, holding down fourth position at the finish. Hill followed up in 450SX Heat 2 with a third-place result. When the gate dropped on the all-important 450SX main event, both Tickle and Hill were in good position to have a great night on the track. Tickle rode a consistent race to finish eleventh, while Hill continued to charge through the field to finish seventh.

Motoconcepts Racing/Smartop’s No. 800 Mike Alessi has opted to sit out the remainder of the 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series in order to prepare for the upcoming Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. Alessi’s 250cc class teammate, No. 23 Jake Canada, was the lone entry for the team in Salt Lake City, but experienced an unfortunate incident and was unable to complete the race.

BTO Sports – KTM team rider No. 29 Andrew Short came out swinging in 450SX Heat 1 with an impressive third-place finish. Short negotiated the technical track with ease aboard his Galfer-outfitted KTM450SX, coming through the field to finish eighth at the checkered flag. Fellow BTO Sports – KTM team rider No. 62 Matt Goerke remains sidelined after a practice incident suffered before the Seattle round. Look for Goerke to return to action after the start of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Series.

Justin Brayton ran a clean race and finished 6th on the day (Photo Courtesy of JGR Toyota Yamaha)

JGR Toyota Yamaha rider No. 10 Justin Brayton rode a solid 450SX Heat 1 to finish in sixth position. Brayton stepped his performance up for the 450SX main event, starting near the front of the pack and running an impressive pace to finish the evening in sixth place.

The 17th and final round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series moves to Las Vegas, NV, next weekend. With two titles yet to be decided, the racing will be as intense as ever. Look for Galfer-equipped riders to finish the season strong with the stopping power and control needed to reach the podium.

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (April 28, 2013) – Utah calls itself the “State of Sport,” being home to snowboarding, skiing, Monster Energy AMA Supercross, and for the first time Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross this summer. The first supercross was held at Rice-Eccles Stadium April 28, 2001. The series skipped the State of Sport from 2005 – 2008 returning in 2009. With its scenic mountainous setting, weather has been an issue at the open air event in the past, once the track had to be covered due to a late spring snow storm. This year the weather was perfect, sunny with a high of 72 degrees and zero chance of rain. 43,149 fans were in attendance and SPEED broadcast the action live.

Justin Brayton transferred directly to the main event from heat race one. In the main Brayton gated well and began the race in podium contention running third in the early laps. As the field began to settle in Brayton was comfortably in sixth position. He remained in sixth without incident to the checkers.

With just one Monster Energy AMA Supercross event left on the schedule the Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX Team turns its attention to the upcoming Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series. Josh Grant is riding again after recovering from shoulder surgery and will join Brayton this week at the team test facility to fine tune engine and suspension settings for the opening round of the outdoor series on May 18 in Sacramento, Calif. at the 45th annual Hangtown Classic.

The final round of the 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship will be on May 4 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev. Supercross Live will begin streaming from Las Vegas at 5:00 p.m. (EST) on supercrossonline.com. SPEED will air all of the action live starting at 9:30 p.m. (EST).

Galfer’s stable of talented riders overcame a very challenging track to conquer Round 15 of the 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series in Seattle, Washington.

Rockstar Energy Racing’s No. 18 Davi Millsaps set the soggy soil on fire with blazing-fast lap times in the early qualifying sessions, and then proceeded to take a commanding win in 450SX Heat 1. In the 450SX main event, Millsaps continued to impress by rounding the first turn in third. The track was in rough shape due to the falling rain, but Millsaps rode fast, consistent laps to take his 10th podium of the season with his third-place finish. Millsaps’ impressive result moved him into second position in the 2013 450SX overall point standings.

Jason Anderson made it to Top Ten at Seattle SX (Photo Courtesy of Rockstar Energy Racing)

Millsaps’ Rockstar Energy Racing teammate, No. 21 Jason Anderson, returned to racing after an extended break in the West Region series, and put together an amazing ride to finish second in 250SX Heat 1. Anderson battled through adversity in the 250SX main event to finish 10th in the tough conditions.

RCH Dodge Sycuan Suzuki No. 20 Broc Tickle had his work cut out of him in Seattle. After going down in his heat race and failing to qualify, Tickle grabbed the final transfer in the 450SX Last Chance Qualifier. Once in the 450SX main event, however, Tickle rode hard to clinch seventh position, his best finish of 2013. Tickle’s teammate, No. 75 Josh Hill, was especially looking forward to Seattle because it’s his hometown race. Hill looked great throughout practice and qualifying, finishing fourth in 450SX Heat 1. In the 450SX main event, Hill battled back from an early crash to capture 12th position.

Motoconcepts Racing/Smartop’s No. 800 Mike Alessi was in top form at Seattle. Alessi managed sixth in 450SX Heat 2 and put in a fantastic ride in the 450SX main event, crossing the checkered flag in sixth. Alessi’s 250cc class teammate, No. 23 Jake Canada, returned to action after a long hiatus in the West Region schedule. Canada finished eighth in 250SX Heat 2 and 14th in the 250SX main event.

BTOSports.com KTM’s No. 29 Andrew Short crashed early in 450SX Heat 2 and was forced to ride the LCQ. Short made quick work of the field to take the win and secure his position in the 450SX main event. He rallied back from a difficult start and clawed his way into ninth position by the time the checkered flag waved. Short’s BTOSports.com KTM teammate, No. 62 Matt Goerke, suffered an injury prior to the Seattle event and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

JGR Toyota Yamaha rider #10 Justin Brayton looked fast and determined in Seattle. Brayton marched his Galfer-equipped Yamaha through the field with ease to capture third in 450SX Heat 2. Brayton pulled together an impressive effort in the 450SX main event to finish in eighth position despite a late-race crash.

Round 16 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series moves to Salt Lake City, Utah, where Galfer-equipped riders will continue to showcase the performance and reliability of the Galfer line of products.

BTO Sports, a leader in the latest motocross gear, parts and accessories, has announced the results of the BTO Sports – KTM team at round 13 of the Monster Energy Supercross series at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX Saturday night. With the debut of the Factory Effex limited edition BTO Sports – KTM white graphics, team riders Andrew Short and Matt Goerke lit up the Houston track.

EVENT RECAP:

Andrew Short qualified 15th out of the practice session. He would get a good start in the heat race, but crashed hard on lap two when he hit a downed rider, dropping him to 12th at the red flag. After the restart, Short would use his KTM Factory Services engine to work his way through the field to finish 8th. He had his work cut out for him in the Main as he would get caught up in a first turn pile-up at the start. He would get back up in 18th and from there ride aggressively through the field, passing Josh Hill on the last turn of the last lap to claim 7th. Going in to Minneapolis, Short is 8th in points.

Matt Goerke was on the gas in qualifying as he secured the 9th fastest spot. He would get a great jump off the gate in his heat, running in 4th until a red flag came out for a downed rider. After the restart, Matt would finish 5th after battling with Ryan Dungey. In the main, the Pirelli Scorpion MX tires hooked up as Matt would get a good jump out of the gate. He would battle inside the top ten until an altercation with Jake Weimer, sending both riders down. Matt would get back up and finish the night in the 11th position. Matt currently is 11th in points going in to the next round.

“Things are starting to come together” said Andrew Short “It was a technical track and I felt good out there. We made a few changes to the bike that worked well and I’m getting more comfortable on the bike each week.”

(April 7, 2013) – Reliant Stadium in Houston, Tex. was the site for round 13 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. Houston and Daytona are the only two original markets remaining from the 1974 championship series with the first race in Houston held on March 15, 1974, over 39 years ago. SPEED once again aired the entire race live and 49,438 Houston faithful were in attendance. Just after the heat races during the live broadcast SPEED aired a pre-filmed three and a half minute feature on the technology JGRMX utilizes and how the Sprint Cup side of the house is leveraged to add as much science as possible to the art of riding a motorcycle. This feature gave the team’s sponsors significant exposure through the motorcycle graphics, Justin Brayton’s gear, and the team personnel’s crew shirts seen during the vignette.

Brayton transferred to the main event without incident. When the gate fell for the main event Brayton found himself in seventh place. During the early race congestion he was relegated to eighth as the pack began to sort itself out. As the race approached the halfway point he moved into seventh, and on lap 10 he advanced to sixth. Brayton rode the final 10 laps mistake free to finish sixth for the night.

The next round of the series will be on April 13 at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. Supercross Live will begin streaming from Minneapolis at 3:00 p.m. (EST) on supercrossonline.com. CBS will broadcast the 450SX Class action at noon, (EST) on April 14.

Eric and Teri Russell offer hard-to-find parts and top-notch customer service to Canadian riders.

When Eric Russell was a teenager, he was walking on a set of railroad tracks and spied a freight car with the words “A Vicious Cycle” spray-painted on the side. He told himself that if he ever opened a motorcycle shop, that would be its name. Fast-forward to 2007, and that fanciful idea became a reality. These days, A Vicious Cycle serves Canadian riders from their shop in New Dundee, Ontario.

The inspiration to open A Vicious Cycle wasn’t about motorcycles themselves, but about the people who ride them. “I was working in the industry and saw a lack of customer service being offered to customers and decided I could do better myself,” says Eric.

One of the ways that Eric and his wife Teri carry out customer service is by offering specialty items that can be hard to find. Eric explains, “Distribution channels in Canada were offering broad product, but not niche market items. We offer the unique items Canadian customers can’t find through their traditional channels.”

Of course, among those items that A Vicious Cycle carries are Galfer brake components. Whether customers ride cruisers, sportbikes, dirt bikes, or ATVs, A Vicious Cycle has the right Galfer solution for braking.

Eric is able to match a customer’s needs to the right Galfer product, depending on what kind of riding each customer is planning to do. Some need quick braking for track days, while others—like the cruiser set—need long-lasting compounds for Canada’s March-September riding season.

Another way that A Vicious Cycle keeps their customer service at the forefront is by meeting the needs of riders who want to customize their motorcycles. Things like tall handlebars or stretched bikes can present a problem for brake lines, but working with Galfer means the options are endless.

“A customer can come in, and we can have Galfer make a brake line in virtually any length that the customer needs. If the customer is doing custom work like taller handlebars, I can order the correct size line, and they can provide it for me in very quick turnaround time,” Eric says.

He adds that custom color options made a big difference to riders who want their cruiser or sportbike to look exactly right. Eric says, “I can order lines in green and have them on my doorstep in a week. It’s one more advantage that Galfer has over the competition.”

Once those Galfer brakes are installed, Eric suggests riding the East River Road, which runs through Ontario from Paris to Cambridge. Just beware the speed limit, he warns, because it’s lower than you might expect. When it’s too cold to ride, A Vicious Cycle attends all of the Canadian motorcycle shows, meeting customers in every major city throughout the country. It’s just another way that A Vicious Cycle fulfills their mission of offering more parts and better customer service to Canadian riders.

Galfer-sponsored racers have had a phenomenal 2013 Monster Energy Supercross season so far, putting together commanding performances and battling for the championship. Galfer has long been the choice for professional athletes who demand high performance and dependable quality, and the results from rounds 9-13 have proven that Galfer delivers.

450 Class

Rockstar Energy Racing’s Davi Millsaps entered St. Louis with the points lead, and though he was battling both the competition and an injury, he left with a sixth-place finish and held onto the red plate. The following round in Daytona came with its own set of challenges, but Millsaps endured to finish 10th. In Indianapolis for Round 11, Millsaps put together a solid race and finished fourth, but lost control of the points lead. The following round in Toronto, Canada, saw Millsaps on the podium with his impressive second-place finish, which helped him hold onto the second spot in the points standing, as well. Houston presented a challenge for Millsaps, but he persevered to finish fifth.

The BTOSports.com/KTM team has been steadfast, solid, and swift in 2013. Matt Goerke took 15th in St. Louis and followed that up with an 11th-place finish in Daytona. He broke into the top 10 in Indianapolis by crossing the finish line in eighth place, and then scored a 10th-place finish in Toronto. After a week off, the series landed in Houston and Goerke finished 11th. Andrew Short joined the team midway through the season, but he has adjusted to his bike and team with aplomb. Short has strung together a series of top-10 finishes, taking 10th in St. Louis, an impressive 7th in Daytona, ninth in Toronto, and another great 7th-place showing in Houston.

JGR Toyota Yamaha’s Justin Brayton has had his share of challenges in 2013, but in St. Louis, he battled his way into the top 10 to cross the finish line in ninth. The following week in Daytona, Brayton qualified with an eighth-place heat race finish, but two unfortunate crashes in the main ended his night early. Brayton finished 13th in Indianapolis and improved on that result with an 11th-place finish in Toronto. In Houston for Round 13, Brayton showed his determination and racing talent as he crossed the finish line in sixth.

Motoconcepts Racing/Smartop’s Mike Alessi put together a great race in St. Louis, finishing seventh. Unfortunately, a string of bad luck started in Daytona with two crashes that relegated him to 16th place, followed by another crash and a 17th-place finish in Indianapolis, and a crash in Toronto that prevented him from finishing the race. Houston started off promising for Alessi as he took the holeshot at the start of the main event, but unfortunately a crash took him out of the race early.

The RCH Dodge Sycuan team of Broc Tickle and Josh Hill have been consistent finishers lately. Tickle finished 11th in St. Louis and followed it up with ninth place in Daytona. An early crash in Indianapolis set Tickle back, but he still managed to finish 11th, followed by his series-best finish of eighth in Toronto. The following race in Houston, Tickle once again made his way into the top 10 with a 10th-place finish. Josh Hill has recovered from an early-season injury and qualified for the main event in Indianapolis, where he scored a solid 11th-place finish, and he followed that performance up with a 13th-place finish in Toronto. After a week off, Hill showed up in Houston ready to race and he scored his best finish of his season with an eighth-place finish.

Hyper-X/R2MX/ProRide Racing rider Weston Peick scored his best finish of the season as he crossed the finish line in 10th place in Indianapolis.

250 Class

Rockstar Energy Racing’s Blake Wharton has been exciting to watch this season. He scored a podium spot in St. Louis with a third-place finish that proved he is a contender for the championship. The following week in Daytona, Wharton took fifth, followed by an incredible effort in Indianapolis. Wharton led the entire race until a crash set him back to ninth position on the last lap. He was back on the podium in Toronto the next week, thanks to his hard work and third-place finish. Houston was Wharton’s lucky night; his No. 13 bike left the 13th round of Supercross with the victory. He put together a commanding performance, leading 14 of the 15-lap main event, and put himself on the top of the podium.

Motoconcepts Racing/Smartop’s Gavin Faith has also been one to watch in 2013, putting together a string of solid finishes. He crossed the finish line in 11th place in St. Louis, and was hoping to break into the top 10 again in Daytona. Unfortunately, he crashed early and was unable to finish the race. Faith quickly got back to form with back-to-back eighth-place efforts in Indianapolis and Toronto. He improved his standings in Houston with an impressive fifth-place finish.
