What can I say, I'm in love with the KLR's unique abilities to do all type of riding and not do any of them 100% right.
This is a project that started like most ideas in a pretty simple way . Get a used bike at a good deal, clean it up and get it road worthy.... But like all good ideas, things changed rather fast. Sergio Garcia, AKA Crashfest, a team member of the Galfer family for the past 6 years decided there was much more to do to this bike than just a good clean up, and started to give us a few ideas...
I need no help on getting over the top and all enthusiastic about a project, and thus we finally got to a point of no return and mutually decided to build a Galfer / KLR project bike. Once this bike is done we hope to have a bike that still will do much of everything and most of it pretty badly, but it will look cool doing it and it will also have gained a few qualities on the process. What do we intend to do really ? Make this KLR ride better, be a ride-all type of terrain, a well done Dual Sport, not killing the rider at the end of the day and be capable of carrying some gear. Keep in mind that at Galfer we build brakes that will improve your brake system and have enough power to do so at temperatures that most likely you will never reach, but, that is the point, make it so well that if a super human ever gets to that point it will still hold up to our reputation. The KLR is sort of the same idea, purchasing most of the products we are adding to the bike from VERY well known reliable sources on the KLR underground world we hope to end up with a machine that works well and is also ready for all of the different tests we are going to make the bike go to. So far we have picked the brains and product catalogs of the folks at: IMS (Chris) www.imsproducts.com Happy Trails (Tim and Todd) www.happy-trail.com Progressive Suspension (David and Justin) www.progressivesuspension.com Jardine Performance (Frank) www.jardineproducts.com Cycle Brakes (Melissa) www.cyclebrakes.com 661 (Gregg) www.sixsixone.com Most of these companies do business with us and we know they build and sale top notch products particullary for KLR's, just like Galfer, they do not cut any corners when it comes to quality this is why we've chosen them. Check back every week for updated pictures and info on our project and the "RIDE" coming up!
