Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Andrew Short scored a top-ten finish on Sunday for a grueling Round 2 of the World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) at Glen Helen Raceway.

Southern California took on heavy rainfall in the days leading up to Sunday and Mother Nature didn’t take a break for racing as the rain remained steady throughout the day. As a result, the Pro race was shortened by 30 minutes and riders were able to complete nine laps amidst some of the most treacherous conditions that WORCS Racing has seen in recent years.

Short didn’t get the greatest start as he rounded the opening lap in 14th after getting stuck in a deep section of standing water. By lap two, Short began to gain some momentum as he powered his FX 450 through the pack to ultimately reach a top-ten position by lap seven. From there, he focused on being smooth and consistent as he secured tenth-place in only his second-ever WORCS event.

Andrew Short: “I’ve ridden Glen Helen numerous times but I’ve never ridden it that muddy or wet. There was so much standing water on the track and I actually got stuck three times in one area – once on the first lap, then the second lap and again on the last lap. But, the track was really challenging and I really enjoyed the course layout, it was much better than the first race and I think the organization did a great job laying out the track. For me personally, I didn’t have a very good start and made some mistakes on the first lap and I just didn’t ride very well. For me to be competitive, I know I have a lot of work to do and I think this little break before the next race is really important for me to get on-track and to get some momentum for the series. In saying that, I’m pretty disappointed with how the race went and I feel like I have a long way to go to be where I want to be and to be competitive.”

Husqvarna Motorcylces-supported rider, Dalton Shirey launched his FX 450 into a top-five position off the start, assuming fourth place on lap one. Shirey battled for a top-five spot for a majority of the race, where he ultimately finished sixth for the day.
