RMATVMC: Baggett finishes 5th overall in Detroit

It was once again a top five night for Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC -KTM-WPS as round 8 of the 2019 AMA Supercross season made its return to Ford Field in Detroit, MI this past Saturday night for the second Triple Crown event of the season.

Blake Baggett launched out of the gate in the first main event narrowly missing the holeshot and completed the first lap in second place. Blake’s exceptional line choices helped him keep pace and he soon found himself in a battle inside the top three. He slid back to place where he took the checkered flag for the first main event. A mid-pack start hindered Blake in main event two as he worked his way from deep in the field to 11th at the finish.

In the third and final main event, Blake timed the gate perfectly and lead the field into the first turn to grab the holeshot. He would continue to hold the lead until an aggressive pass from Justin Barcia pushed Blake off the track. He quickly recovered only losing a few spots and mounted a charge to the front, finding himself within striking distance of the leader Cooper Webb with two laps to go. Keeping the pressure on, Blake closed the gap in the final few turns, narrowly missing the win to finish 2nd at the checkered flag.

“Tonight was a good night,” said Baggett. “I was riding well and my speed was there all night. It’s a shame I didn’t get the start I needed in the second main. I’m looking forward to fighting for the win in Atlanta next weekend.”

Justin Bogle would have a tough time finding the rhythm on the Detroit track all night. An uncharacteristic midpack start in main event one had him batting for position deep in the pack. He stayed strong and took the checkered flag in 14th. Main event two would start well for Justin until going down early in the race. He would recover and finish 19th. He would again find himself on the ground at the beginning of the third and final main event. After remounting, Justin put in a charge to 17th at the checkered flag.

“Not my best night,” said Bogle. “My starts weren’t there and struggled all night with the track. I’ll regroup, make some changes to the bike and be ready next weekend in Atlanta.”

Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC – KTM – WPS continues on to Atlanta, GA and Mercedes-Benz Stadium for round nine of the 2019 AMA Supercross Series.
